About

Tempo was founded in late 2013 by Joseph Bracken and Robert Chapman. The principals are based in Sydney, Australia and have developed a new and innovative way of investing in global markets. Joe and Robert have worked together since 2007, and have significant experience in both building and running quantitative investment strategies, gaining exposure to a range of asset classes.

Tempo employs an innovative, top-down approach to re-thinking market benchmarks and exploiting market premia to produce better returns for investors over time.

Approach

The investment process adopted by Tempo will vary based on the strategy being implemented. There is generally consistency in the adoption of a systematic, rule-based approach to investing. In striving for sustainable and consistent market returns, Tempo deconstructs the relevant market beta of the asset class being invested, into its constituent country or stock betas. Tempo then constructs the particular strategy portfolio using an ‘equally-weighted’ approach in order to improve the risk/reward outcome for investors by taking advantage of the diversification and smaller country premiums. Finally, Tempo determine the desired exposures based on proprietary quantitative processes grounded in academic and industry research that screen for value and momentum factors, and a sophisticated risk management methodology to protect capital in times of market drawdown.
